New Medicare Cards – Wave 1 Completed, Wave 3 Begins
CMS has published an MLN Connects article providing updated information on the progress of issuing new Medicare Beneficiary Identification Numbers and mailing new cards to existing beneficiaries.
The majority of beneficiaries in Wave 1 should have received their new cards at this point. Wave 1 states include Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. If beneficiaries in any of the Wave 1 states have not received their card, CMS has provided a fact sheet and a phone number to contact to determine why they have not received their card. In most cases, the address on file needs to be updated.
New cards continue to be mailed to beneficiaries in the Wave 2 states including Alaska, American Samoa, California, Guam, Hawaii, Northern Mariana Islands, Oregon.
Beneficiaries in wave 3 states should begin seeing cards arriving in the coming weeks. Wave 3 states include Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
The remaining waves and their corresponding states are shown on the New Medicare Card Mailing Strategy and will be updated as waves are completed.
